Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill competitions allow individuals to enter without a partner and demonstrate skills in spontaneous dancing with a variety of partners. During the preliminary contest, Leaders and Followers are randomly paired. Contestants will be dancing with multiple partners and are scored individually on timing, technique and teamwork. Those scoring the highest will be called back later to dance in a final contest. In the final, individuals are randomly paired and then scored as a couple.
WSDC points will be granted based on the number of competitors in each division. You can compete in either role, Follower or Leader. To be able to compete in both roles, you need to compete in different divisions. Divisions and points needed to compete on one goes as follows.
Divisions available at Finnfest:
- Newcomer: Beginner first-time competitor or have earned no points
- Novice: Have earned less than 30 Novice points, Newcomer points not required
- Intermediate: Have earned 16 or more Novice points
- Advanced: Have earned 30 or more Intermediate points
- All Star: Have earned 60 or more Advanced points
- Sophisticated: 35 years of age or older by the close of the event
Strictly Swing
The Strictly Swing competitions are designed to showcase a competitor’s social dance skills with a chosen partner. Competitors enter as a couple.
Divisions available at Finnfest:
- Novice: Both Follower and Leader must be eligible to dance in Novice in the role they choose to dance in the competition
- Intermediate: Both Follower and Leader must be eligible to dance maximum in Intermediate in the role they choose to dance in the competition
- Open: Open to any level of dancers. If you are competing also in the Novice - Intermediate division, you have to dance with a different partner in Open division
